Key things to know about our new name and brand

There is a strong, meaningful story behind our new name. As part of our rebrand, we wanted to retain a respectful connection to our roots. Evora derives from the Celtic word for yew, reflecting the hospice’s roots in Newry – a word that also means yew. Evora is also the district of Portugal where St John of God was born, providing a strong link to the hospice’s legacy as an organisation founded by the Sisters from the Order of St John of God.

Our new name and brand are a true reflection of who we are today: modern, vibrant, and rooted in the communities that we serve. We undertook extensive research with our key stakeholders which highlighted a need to evolve the brand, reach our supporters across all of Armagh, Down, and Tyrone, and make us recognisable and inclusive of the wider catchment area where we offer our palliative care services.

We were pleased to have been awarded funds from Dormant Assets NI, which is delivered by the National Lottery Community Fund, to develop our new brand and website. We were also delighted that Norbrook provided support for the launch of our new name and brand. We are always incredibly mindful that every penny matters in the hospice and our focus is always on provision of services to the patients and their families, however a rebrand is an important investment in the future of the hospice.

No. Though our name has changed, our purpose is stronger than ever, and we remain fully committed to providing compassionate and dignified support to patients, carers and the bereaved – now and into the future. This is reflected in our new mission statement: Every moment with everyone.

This is a very recent development and we understand it will take time to fully embed. We are actively working with all our dedicated supporters to communicate this change. If you have already commenced fundraising, we are encouraging you to continue. This change won’t have any impact on your valued efforts. For upcoming and future fundraising activities, our volunteer, fundraising, and corporate teams will be available to advise and provide updated materials that feature our new name and brand.

We recently held a celebration event to mark 35 years of the hospice, launch our new name and brand, and to discuss our future vision. The event was also an opportunity to highlight the hospice’s important work throughout the counties of Armagh, Down, and Tryone and was held in Portadown to reflect this. The event took place at the Seagoe Hotel in Portadown, was attended by supporters and stakeholders from across the three counties, and was kindly supported by Norbrook.

NOTE: we will continue to add to these questions and answers as needed to help our supporters, stakeholders and the community to understand the change.
