Patrick’s Story
Through every challenge, Patrick continues to show that even with MS, life can still be full of laughter, connection, and purpose.
At 52 years old, Patrick has been living with primary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) for nearly half his life. Diagnosed three years after getting married, he spent the first seven years on foot before transitioning to a wheelchair, where he has now spent the past 13 years. But anyone who meets him quickly realises that it’s not the MS that defines him — it’s his attitude.
A proud local to South Tyrone Hospital in Dungannon, he’s been attending the Southern Area Hospice Hub for the past four to five years. He previously took part in the drop-in café, arts and crafts sessions, and counselling with Lisa — all of which helped him form lasting friendships and a strong sense of community.
Your attitude is everything,
A three-time All-Ireland bowls champion, his competitive spirit is matched only by his charisma. With a quick joke, a wide smile, and a natural gift for conversation, he has a way of lighting up any room. “Your attitude is everything,” he says — and he lives that out every day, as a devoted husband of 22 years and proud father of two grown-up children.
As we mark MS Awareness Week, his story reminds us of the power of positivity in the face of adversity. Through every challenge, he continues to show that even with MS, life can still be full of laughter, connection, and purpose.
